Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 4/40/4M drive (DSI Modbus)

Register map(s) for this device, with a note of how far each has been checked. Addresses are 0-based, as on the wire. Scale and byte order are confirmed only at the hardware-verified rung.

coherence-checked

Round-trips through a real Modbus stack with no overlapping addresses and a word-order-sensitive codec — the map is internally coherent and wire-decodable. Does NOT prove byte-order or scaling match a real device: the emulator is seeded from the map's own types, so a uniformly wrong byte-order still round-trips. Only hardware-verified confirms byte-order/scale on the wire.

link settings as documented (unverified): RTU; default 9600 8N1; unit ID 100; FC 03,06,16; Power to drive must be cycled before any changes will affect drive operation. Supported formats include RTU 8-N-1, 8-E-1, 8-O-1, 8-N-2, 8-E-2, and 8-O-2.

⚠ Risk of equipment damage exists if writing parameter data to Non-Volatile Storage (NVS) frequently. NVS will quickly exceed its life cycle. — Starkest reads only; we never write a control register.

field reports — community-sourced, unverified (checked 2026-06-11)
  • Standard RJ45 Ethernet cables should not be plugged directly into the DSI port without isolating pins, as other pins (such as pins carrying power for HIM modules) can cause communication issues or hardware damage if connected to standard RS-485 transceivers. Only pins 4 and 5 should be wired for Modbus RTU. [source]
  • confirmed: comms.default_baud: 9600 — confirmed by PowerFlex 4M User Manual (Publication 22F-UM001E-EN-E) parameter C302 [Comm Data Rate] default
  • confirmed: comms.default_unit_id: 100 — confirmed by PowerFlex 4M User Manual parameter C303 [Comm Node Addr] default
  • confirmed: physical.connector: RJ45 — confirmed by manual and application notes describing the DSI port
  • confirmed: physical.notes: Only pins 4 and 5 on the RJ45 plug should be wired — confirmed by field guides and forum discussions identifying Pin 4 as TxRxD+ (Data+) and Pin 5 as TxRxD- (Data-)
  • confirmed: quirks.notes: Modbus devices can be 0-based or 1-based — confirmed by Rockwell Publication 2080-UM002H-EN-E noting that register addresses may need to be offset by +1 depending on the master

The trust ladder

Each rung states what it proved and what it did not. Gray until proven; green is earned by hardware only.

Device not here? Upload its manual and get a checked map back. It's free.

Want it confirmed against your own device? Order hardware verification. If it doesn't check out, you don't pay.
